Treasure on a Grid

A treasure sits on a grid and you write the steps to reach it. Use the robot lab to test whether your plan matches the map in your head.

Goal on the board

Picture a five-by-five grid. You stand on a corner facing along a row. A treasure icon sits three squares away with one turn in between. Your job is to write the steps, not to guess while walking.

Count squares on the map before you write. Two forwards in a row mean two separate steps, not one long jump. Each forward is exactly one square.

Open the robot lab and load a treasure hunt plan. Press play and watch the robot stop on the flag. If it stops early, your count was short.

Write, then watch

Type or pick your steps in order: forward, forward, turn left, forward. The robot follows literally. It will not cut corners across blocked squares.

If the treasure is one square farther than you thought, add one forward at the end rather than rewriting the whole plan from scratch.

Celebrate small fixes. Treasure hunts are puzzles where the prize is a working list of moves.

Treasure as a habit

Hopscotch squares, treasure hunts on the playground and puzzle apps all use the same idea. Find the spot, plan your moves, then take them one at a time.

Before you close this topic, sketch a tiny map on paper and trade plans with a friend. See if their robot reaches your treasure.

Next you will think about shorter paths, not just any path that works.
