A messy room feels huge until you split it into zones. Floor first, then desk, then bed. Small zones beat one vague step that says clean everything.

Lesson 1 of 3

Zones beat one giant step

Clean your room sounds like one step, but it hides dozens of jobs. Toys, clothes, paper and dishes might all live in the same space. Your brain freezes because the plan is too big.

Split the room into zones. Zone one might be the floor path to the door. Zone two might be the desk. Zone three might be the bed. Each zone gets its own mini algorithm.

Order that helps

Clear the floor path first so you can move without tripping. There is no point folding shirts on the bed if you cannot reach the bed yet.

Put rubbish in a bag before you sort treasure. Otherwise you might throw away something important in the rush.

Time-box if you need to. Ten minutes on floor, ten on desk. A timer turns a scary job into a short race you can win.

Plans others can use

Write your zone list for a sibling who will help Saturday. Say put all Lego in the blue bin, not make it nice. Nice is not a step they can check.

When they finish, walk the room together. If something failed, fix the step words, not the person.

Next you will compare fair ways to share snacks. Algorithms also help groups split things evenly.
